In the UK this morning, the London Stock Exchange issues a trading update. At the start of this month, the Hong Kong stock exchange abandoned its takeover bid for the London market. Investors will be glad to have this potential distraction out of the way. They will also be particularly interested to hear more about the LSE’s tie-up with financial data provider Refinitiv.

Other London-listed companies reporting include InterContinental Hotels, and veterinary drugs group Dechra Pharmaceuticals.
It’s also a big day for corporate earnings in the US. Drinks giant Coca Cola reports its third quarter results. The company – which bought coffee shop chain Costa Coffee earlier this year – has been on a roll recently. Its share price is close to an all-time high, and analysts expect the strong growth seen in its second quarter to have continued.
Other companies reporting include payments group American Express and oil field services giant Schlumberger.
