Gem Diamonds (LSE: GEMD) is a global diamond producer that explores for and produces diamonds in parts of Africa, Indonesia and Australia. Shares have tumbled in the past year as a result of the scarcity of large high-value diamonds. It has also been hurt by weakening prices for lower-quality stones produced at its newly built Ghaghoo mine in Botswana, which the group subsequently plans to close. In June this year 27% of shareholders voted against the re-election of chief executive officer Clifford Elphick.
