Money Minute Tuesday 19 November: company results and the election debate

This morning in the UK we get budget airline EasyJet’s full-year results. Investors will be watching closely to see how the airline plans to profit from the demise of tour operator Thomas Cook.

White goods online retailer AO World also reports its first-half figures. The company has generally proved to be a poor investment. Its share price has been sliding downhill practically since the day it listed in 2014. This year, however, has been particularly grim for investors. The share price has fallen by more than half since the start of 2019, and it is now trading at close to an all-time low.
There’s also something that we think UK investors should watch on the telly tonight, although admittedly you may not want to – ITV is hosting an election debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn. For now, the Conservatives are polling strongly, which in turn has buoyed up sterling. If Labour leader Corbyn is seen as having clawed back ground in the leadership debate, we could see fresh uncertainty, which might impact on the pound.
