The FTSE 100 fell further yesterday, sliding 1.2% to close at 6,269.
Housebuilders were in the firing line. Barratt was the day’s worst performer with a 3.6% slide, while Taylor Wimpey fell 3.4% and Persimmon was 3% lower.
In Europe, the Paris CAC 40 fell 0.7% to 4,609, and the German Xetra Dax was 1.2% lower at 9,915.
In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.9% to 16,924, the S&P 500 slipped 0.5% to 1,994, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.3% to 4,782.
Overnight in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.2% to 18,096, and the broader Topix index added 1.4% to 1,490. And in China, the CSI 300 gained 2.4% to 3,486, and the Shanghai Composite was 2.3% higher at 3,338.
Brent spot was trading at $49.19 early today, and in New York, crude oil was at $46.31. Spot gold was trading at $1,185 an ounce, silver was at $16.14 and platinum was at $1003.
In the forex markets this morning, sterling was trading against the US dollar at 1.5477 and against the euro at 1.3539. The dollar was trading at 0.8747 against the euro and 118.41 against the Japanese yen.
And in the UK, Burberry said profits are likely to fall for the second year in a row as sales are hit by the slowdown in China. Burberry gets 30% of its revenue from China. Shares fell by over 11% in today’s early trading.
