The FTSE 100 saw further falls yesterday, sliding another 1.4% to close at 6,933.
Easyjet was the day’s biggest faller, down 9.8% despite posting its first first-half profit for years. Retailer Kingfisher was also out of favour, with a 3.5% fall.
In Europe’s markets yesterday, the Paris CAC 40 fell 1.1% to 4,974, and the German Xetra Dax lost 1.7% to 11,472.
In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.2% to 18,068, the S&P 500 lost 0.3% to 2,099, and the Nasdaq Composite was 0.4% lower at 4,976.
Overnight in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.7% to 19,764, and the broader Topix index added 0.1% to 1,604. And in China, the Shanghai Composite and the CSI 300 each fell 0.6% 4,375 and 4,719 respectively.
Brent spot was trading at $67.24 early today, and in New York, crude oil was at $61.23. Spot gold was trading at $1,195 an ounce, silver was at $16.65, and platinum was at $1,132.
In the forex markets this morning, sterling was trading against the US dollar at 1.5677 and against the euro at 1.3948. The dollar was trading at 0.8896 against the euro and 119.83 against the Japanese yen.
And in the UK, Worldpay is preparing for a flotation on the stockmarket that could value the company at up to £6bn, according to Sky News. The online payment processer is said to have hired investment bank Lazard to advise on the potential IPO.
