Hotel Baur au Lac, Switzerland
Most of yesterday’s arrests took place at this exclusive Swiss hotel (pictured above), which has been around for over 170 years. While single rooms start at CHF570 a night (around £400), the most expensive suites go up to CHF3,800 (around £2,600). A cup of tea costs CHF8.50 (£5.80), while foil-cooked Turbot fillet in the Michelin-starred Pavillion will set you back CHF102 (£70).
The May Fair Hotel, London
Reports indicate that much of the FBI’s case depends on recordings made by disgraced official Chuck Warner, who allegedly conducted meetings with senior colleagues, while carrying a bugged keychain, during the 2012 London Olympics. He stayed at the five-star May Fair Hotel in London where a pot of tea is £4.75. Prices of rooms vary depending on the date and size, but a night in the Penthouse suite typically costs round £3,000 a night.
Reef Atlantis, Bahamas
As part of his re-election campaign, Fifa president Sepp Blatter attended the conference of Fifa’s North and Central American representatives. The conference was held at the Reef Atlantis, a luxury hotel on an island in the Bahamas, where suites can run to $1,350 a night (£930).
Copacabana Palace, Rio de Janeiro
Fifa has been beset by other problems. Last year, ticket agent Ray Whelan, who owns a Fifa partner company, was arrested at the swanky Copacabana Palace in Rio for his involvement in alleged ticket touting. Typical prices for the most expensive suites are around £670 a night. While charges against him were later dropped, related cases are still proceeding.
Bourbon Conmebol Asunción Convention Hotel, Paraguay
During his current re-election campaign, Joseph ‘Sepp’ Blatter stayed at the Bourbon Conmebol Asunción Convention Hotel when he attended the South American confederation’s annual congress. Suites comparable to the one Blatter stayed in cost $2,700 a night ($1,755).
