The FTSE100 ended the week lower on Friday, slipping 0.4% to close at 5,950.
Rolls-Royce was the day’s biggest faller, down 3%. Worldpay lost 3%, Sports Direct fell 2.5%, and RBS was 2.3% lower.
In Europe, the Paris CAC 40 lost 0.4% to 4,223, and the German Xetra Dax fell 1.3% to 9,338.
In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1% to 16,391, the S&P 500 was flat at 1,917, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4% to 4,504.
Overnight in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.9% to 16,111, and the broader Topix index gained 0.6% to 1,300. And in China, the CSI 300 rose 2.2% to 3,118, and the Shanghai Composite added 2.4% to 2,927.
Brent spot was trading at $33.65 early today, and in New York, crude oil was at $30.42. Spot gold was trading at $1,209 an ounce, silver was at $15.03 and platinum was at $924.
In the forex markets this morning, sterling was trading against the US dollar at 1.4178 and against the euro at 1.2784. The dollar was trading at 0.9017 against the euro and 112.82 against the Japanese yen.
And today, HSBC reported disappointing profits for 2015. Pre-tax profits for the year were $18.87bn, down on analysts’ expectations of $21.8bn. HSBC’s share price was down 4.4% in today’s early trading.
