Grab the best gas deals

Gas prices are falling. But don’t just sit around waiting for the price cuts to come to you. Npower, EDF Energy, Scottish Power and E.ON may have joined British Gas and Scottish & Southern Energy in announcing price cuts, but these apply to their standard tariffs. And these tend to be the companies’ most expensive, so even with the latest cuts they don’t represent a good deal.

For example, Npower’s cuts will reduce the average standard bill by £50 to £1,196 per year for dual fuel, says Kara Gammell in The Daily Telegraph. But that deal is still more expensive than the same deal with E.ON, currently “the best provider for standard dual-fuel tariffs”, says Gammell. If you shop around for the best deal for your needs via comparison websites, such as Moneysupermarket.com or Uswitch.com, you could get an even better deal. If you don’t have a computer, you can still find the best deal by calling Moneysupermarket.com on 0845-345 1296.
