China has just scrapped its one-child policy, partly in response to a looming demographic crisis.
In the map this week we look at countries that belong to the G20 group of major developed and emerging economies and shown their total fertility rate, which is the average number of children born per woman, assuming that all women live to the end of their childbearing years.
A rate of above two indicates a growing population; below two, a shrinking population.
In general, emerging economies have higher fertility rates than developed ones, but there are notable exceptions on both sides.
